:: The Book of Eli ::

Hmmmmmm... The Book of Eli is a movie which surprised me. I don't know if it is because I haven't read about the movie; or because I began watching it not expecting much.

By the begining the movie looks/feels like "I am legend", but pretty soon will notice it's not like that. I really enjoyed the action scenes. Man, what a blade Eli had ;) But what really caught my attention was the references to THE BOOK, its "power", its "use". Comes hand-in-hand with many things I learned/believe.

A really good movie. Worth watching!

Worth buying? Well... only if, like me, you would like to see those action scenes again ;)

:: Karate Kid ::

To begin with, while in the hell the movie had to be called The Karate Kid, if what the boy learns (in this version) is Kung Fu? I even liked the movie. Yes, it is a remake/adaptation of the original one. Now the kid doesn't learn Karate, but Kung Fu. Quite a good movie. One of those you would expect to watch on that afternoon movie session on TV (yes, not on the movies/cinema). Worth watching, not worth buying the DVD/BlueRay (unless you have serious problems like movie addiction).

Not much to say about this one. I still like the original movie better.

:: Clash of the Titans ::

Yes, I finally watched Clash of the Titans last week. I had read loads of reviews (and some other people) complaining about it. Saying it stinked, bla bla bla. Yep, it isn't the best movie made ever. But, as I say, it entertains. That said... I considered the movie to be good. The action is good, the FX are good and the story is good despite some little problems.

Only two things bothered me in this version/adaptation: The worst thing is the "shining gods". Why in the holy crappy skies the gods would need ARMORS... and why they had to shine like that? Disgusting. The second thing is that Io girl. Other than that, ok.

Yes, I watched the first Clash of the Titans when I was a kid and I loved that. I won't compare that one with this one. They are different, but of course, the new movie is a remake AND an adaptation, so... DIFFERENT should be expected. Which of them I like most? The first one. Perhaps because it is there, in my childhood, even with the stop motion FX, etc ;)

I tell you, it is worth watching. Not a DVD/BlueRay you should buy, but it is worth watching.

:: Avatar ::

:: Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen ::

Inglês

Finally the movie is out and BEHOLD, it was released in my city. That alone is a great feat :P . Plus, we have new movie theaters here. Great plus indeed.

Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen have beaten my expectations. I was expecting a movie that would be at least as good as the first one, but it is more. OK, I know people who said the movie sucked, that the first one is better. OK, OK. Everyone has the right to opinions, I respect that. So... all you will see here, as usual, is MY OPINION about the movie. Nice action, good actors, great FX, very nice robots, etc. Does the movie has problems? Of course, more than two or three. But that doesn't make it suck, IMHO.

Points I didn't like (and hey, there are some minor spoilers bellow):
  1. No need for the scene where the little robot humps Mikaela's leg;
  2. No need for the scene of Mojo (the dog) humping the other dog;
  3. That Autobot fighting the Fallen? Too quick for my taste. It (the fight) deserved to be longer;
  4. Too much time spent around the romance between Mikaela and Sam;
  5. I think it is odd that one of the robots was able to desguise as a human. Laaaaame, why all the others couldn't? :(
  6. Again Ironhide, Ratchet and other Autobots showed too little. I would like to have seen more of Sideswipe (or will I have to wait for Transformers 3?)
  7. The "faces" of the twin autobots. Lame to portray them that way.
Points I did like:
  1. More Megan Fox;
  2. More robots (either side);
  3. More Megan Fox;
  4. The story is good enough;
  5. Nice they put Arcee in the story, but she shouldn't be "the Arcee twins" and I would like that appearence to be better explored. Will we see Elita One on the next movie? :P
  6. Have I already said more Megan Fox?
OK, the movie is not going to compete for Oscar of Best Movie. But it is good, damn it. Yes, I would like some battle scenes were shot with a "more open camera/lens" so that we could see the robots better. But at least this was improved since the first movie. Another thing... now we can see the real Optimus Prime in action. Oh, sure! Looks like we have two sets of Constructicons. In the cartoon series from the 80's, the Constructicons were Decepticons which when united formed the huge robot Devastator. We can see the Constructicons (at least they were very alike them) in the movie, landing (more like crashing) on Air Carrier. Later we see another "constructicons like" vehicles merging to form the Devastator.

Ah... and the Devastator participation was... weak too. But not bad.

OK, OK, perhaps I am too much a Transformer fan to rate this movie. Anyway... the movie is good and I think it is one to be seen in the movies. I did that, now I will wait for it to come out in DVD :)

Autotobs, transform and roll out!

:: Fanboys ::

Inglês

Oh well... I watched Fanboys and all I can say is... almost a good movie. Or should I say "good" movie? Yes, it entertains... a little bit. Sure it is nice to see all the Star Wars references (at least for those who are SW fans) but... I thought the movie would be at least a bit funnier. Well, one of those movies to be watched on the TV, not on movies or DVD.

Ah sure, the actors worked OK, but that wasn't enough to make me rate it better. Sorry!

:: Fast & Furious ::

Inglês:

I don't remember if I said this on that other post (about the extended weekend)... anyway, I think that watching Fast & Furious is worthier than watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In my opinion the former has better action scenes and a little better story.

OK, it's not a movie to try an Oscar, but it is good. A bit better than good (so it already beats the later). It's a fun movie, I don't think I would have much to say about it, since it is not one of those deep movies. The action is good, there are many beautiful women, the cars are great (the two cars I like the most show up: Dodge Charger R/T and the Pontiac Firebird Trans-AM). Of course there are plenty of those "yeah right" scenes but, hey, this is not a movie about reallity, right? :P

My special attention to two brunets: Jordana Brewster and Gal Gadot. Watch them!

This is a movie worth watching in the movies, but of course... it gets cheaper when it comes out in DVD/Blueray, right ;)

Minha especial atenção vai para duas morenas: Jordana Brewster and Gal Gadot. Olho nelas!

:: X-Men Origins: Wolverine ::

Inglês:

Oh my... I admit I was expecting something much better than this. But then, I should have reminded myself of who is behind the movie: 20th Century Fox and their crappy producers/directors.

As I said to some friends, I consider a movie to be good (just good) when it entertains you. If a movie doesn't do that, it's not good. If it does more than that, then can be more than good.

After watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine I was quite disapointed. OK, the movie is good, JUST GOOD. The story is weak. And that doesn't come from my "Wolverine fan" side. It comes from someone who really enjoy movies in general. The fighting scenes are weak (even worse if you are a Wolverine fan); too many characters (does that remind of X-Men 1, 2 or 3?), so they don't explore them as much is they should; Wolverine, AGAIN, is a sissy. Anyone who have heard of the character (forget all the movies you've seen) knows Wolverine kicks ass, he's got a bad attitude, doesn't mind killing his enemies, etc, etc. Damn!

Hugh Jackman's work is great, as I said on other times, he is a great actor (go find about his acting background). Liev Schreiber did a very nice job as Sabertooth; a much better Sabertooth than that one which showed up on X-Men 1 (that was a brainless crap). In fact, I have quite nothing to complaing about actors/actresses work. The weakness of the movie is the plot, the story, etc.

hahahahahah I read somewhere that there is a "Jonathan and Martha Kent" on the movie ehehehehe (referring to the old couple who give a jacket and a bike to Wolverine). Oh my!

If you are not a Wolverine fan, go watch the movie, it is "good". If you are a fan, don't waste your money on the movies/cinema. Wait for it to come out in DVD/Blueray, gather your friends get a bit of money from each one and then you guys/girls can rent it, watch it and keep going with your lives. This is one of those movies which won't really change your life. As I read elsewhere (I think it was on Judao) "A movie that didn't need to be made".

Portuguese:

Minha nossa! Olha... a coisa é meio feia.

A história é fraca! Bota roteiro fraco nisso.

:: Seven Pounds (Sete Vidas) ::

English:

Such a GREAT movie! Amazing performance by all the actors and actresses, but mainly Will Smith and Rosario Dawson.

The story catches your attention since the beginning; it is sometimes tense, and right after that it gets soft, even funny. My wife began to cry by the middle of the movie.

I would like to talk a bit more about it, but I think I would spoil it for those who haven't watched it yet, like... "telling the story". Watch it, I bet you won't regret.

We watched it on last Sunday and my wife said that movie goes to her "watch again" list.

:: Australia ::

Here I am, talking about another movie. This time, Australia. Such a very good movie. OK, the story is a bit predictable, but that doesn't spoil the fun. First note: I thought the movie was about 2 hours long, when it is about 2h45min. That made me and my wife go to sleep quite later than we are used too *LOL*

Very good acting by Hugh Jackman, David Venham and the little boy, Brandon Walters. I point out to the boy, more specially. He is the one telling the story. I don't know if it is because I am not from an English speaking country, but I really enjoyed his accent. hmmm what? Nicole Kidman? Yes, her work on this movie is good indeed. But, in my opinion, nothing THAT wonderful. Perhaps if she wasn't that much retouched (plastic surgery? bottox?)

Oh yes, the movie made my wife cry *grin*. Really good movie, great landscapes, great photography.

I liked it too because it talks about racism, mainly how these things were dealt with in Australia, back in the 1940s. It is quite repulsive that black and "halfcast" people were treated like that.

So, psychicist, one more "review" done ;)

And remember, pay attention to the boy! :D

:: The Spirit ::

OK...

My oh my... how to begin this?

Anyway, two nights ago my wife was too sleepy to watch a nice movie with me, so I put my earphones on, pluged it to the netbook and fired up "The Spirit". At first I thought the beginning of the movie was just something to "throw me off the rails"... to... hmmmmm ... try and cheat me. I wasn't allowing myself to believe the movie was that bad.

And not, the movie is not that bad. It simply SUCKS!

Holy Yoda! How come Frank Miller is that out of his mind? If that's all he can do about comics movies, I just hope he quits NOW.

EDITED:

I wasn't going to post much about this movie, but since psychicist complained about my review... then there it goes.

Have I already sad the movie sucks? Anyway, it astonishes me that good actors/actresses accepted to work on something as bad as this. OK, not everyone will prime for a VERY GOOD movie. Sometime you will end up working on something of lower quality but.... THIS LOW??? Samuel Lee Jackson, who is a great actor (at least I so qualify him), worked on something like that? Damn!

OK, I admit I never read a Spirit comics, so I can't say anything about movie quality compared to comics quality; if it was a good adaptation or not. But I can say the movie is a tremendous trash. Let's take Spider Man as an example. Yes, it is not a very good example when you want to talk about GOOD MOVIES. However, as I said to psychicist on IRC, I consider a movie that entertains to be a good one. If it does more than that... then the "grade" goes higher. The "Spider Man trend" at least entertains me. So... I consider the movies to be AT LEAST good. Yes, I know all those 3 Spider Man movies have flaws, etc, etc. But The Spirit gets to be even worse then those. Do you get the spirit? *ROTFL* (forgive the pun)

For me, the best scenes of the movie are when Eva Mendes is shown almost naked (OK, the character was to be that way, unfortunately the camera doesn't show that much) and when Paz Vega shows up for the first time, dancing in front of The Spirit.

Ah, I said "when she shows up for the first time".... forgive me if I am saying some bullshit here. Like... if she doesn't show anymore. The truth it is I couldn't stand the movie, I quit watching it about its middle. I was even getting sleepy because of that crap :(

Now I write again (remember this post was edited): OVER AND OUT

:: Movies - The Dark Knight ::

Sure, this will not be the first nor the best blog post about The Dark Knight. But, since I have been writing a bit about movies I watched AND I watched this particular movie on last Saturday (yes, ladies and gents, yes, the movie finally arrived in my city), I had to come and post about it, right?

Firstly, yes I am a big fan of Batman. I don't remember when I first saw one of "his" comics, I just know I was really young. Most likely I didn't know how to read by that time.

Secondly, yes I purposedly chose a movie poster with the Jocker, because he is the man of the movie. Yes, yes, everybody talked about Heath Ledger's performance, how good it was, bla bla bla, that he deserves an Oscar, bla bla bla.

Bla bla bla my ass! He does deserve a freaking Oscar! "A freaking Oscar"... please pay attention to the bold words... and his performance: FREAKING! I do think Jack Nicholson did a wonderful job when he played the Jocker. But what Ledger did is hard to be beaten.

Aaron Eckhart was amazing as Harvey Dent too. Congratulations Mr. Eckhart, very good job. It was very nice to see "the other face" of Harvey Two Faces. I mean, what Harvey Dent was before becoming Two Faces. I wish there was more of Two Faces on the movie......oops, SHUT UP, PUNK!

Maggie Gyllenhaal is another story. Sorry lady, but your work, at least on this movie, was not good. Perhaps the script writers, or the director, or it is someone else to blame, but Rachel Dawes was not nice on this movie. No, I don't think Kate Holmes did an oustanding job when she played Rachel. But surely she was prettier ;)

Too bad the theater/cinema here in my city sucks so bad. The sound quality (???) is terrible. Even my TV set at home has better sound (and it is a simple one). I have to remember and send an email to the guys who manage that cinema (or even better to one of the newspapers in the city) complaining about that. The movie is about 2h30min and I didn't see/feel the time passing. The Dark Knight is not one of those movies which takes loooong to finish, nor one of those which ends too quickly. It was made in the right measure. I won't talk much about specific points of the movie to avoid spoiling the fun for those who haven't watched it yet. But one little thing I can say: yes guys, Christian Bale could have used other techniques to avoid people finding Bruce Wayne is the Batman. That kind of voice he does when wearing the black suit... just doesn't sound right. Hey, I do like his work, but that voice is not nice. Perhaps he could fake a stronger voice, a deeper one... but that thing he did? Ouch! Yes, thanks to the sound quality at "our cinema" the problem is even worse. Crap!

Now I will wait for the DVD, so I can watch again. If the cinema didn't suck so bad, I would watch it again there. Since it does... WAIT, Kenjiro, WAIT!

Oh yeah, the way the Batpod was introduced on the story, that was great!

See ya!

:: Movies - Vantage Point ::

Yet another good movie: Vantage Point. My cousin got this movie on the video store, watched it and said it was pretty good. So he lent me DVD and I took it home to watch with my wife as soon as our little princess would be sleeping. Well, I said this before: pregancy is tough stuf. My wife was tired and didn't hold on much longer, so she was asleep before the middle of the movie.

NO, NO, NO! Vantage Point is not boring. It's really a good movie, as my cousin said. I really enjoyed the way the story is told. All characters are well played. Too bad I have become a smartass when it comes to movies. I could guess some small parts of the movie, but that didn't spoil the whole fun.

Hey, Dennis Quaid, beware, you are getting old, man ;)

And.. hmmmm, hmmmm, hmmmm watch out for that girl (Ayelet Zurer).

So, here is another of my "movie advices" hehehe This a very good one. Go for it!

:: Movies - Wanted ::

No, no, I am not "Wanted, daed or alive!". I am talking about the movie Wanted, which I watched last Saturday night.

To be begin with, people, remember it is based on a comic book. Yes, the movie is a bit crazy; it is a mix of Sci-Fi and Action; but it is good. At least, in my humble opinion (IMHO), it is a very good movie. Although the story is not that much creative, I liked the story telling. I won't say much more than this. I could, yes I could. But I am not willing to spoil the movie for those who haven't watched it yet. Here in my city it hasn't reached the cinema yet :( Yep, crappy cinema, crappy cinema!

Oh, James McAvoy did well on this movie. I have seen him on The Chronicles of Narnia, but I really don't remember him. Sorry, fellow! To tell the truth, when I saw that image (this one on the left) in front of the cinema (yes, the movie poster is there for a month already, but the movie hasn't arrived) I thought "ouch, that must be an action movie and I bet the main character is a big, tough guy." Hahahahaa, it was really interesting seeing James McAvoy in the main role. Good job.

Uh.. What? Do you really think I should talk about Angelina Jolie's role on this movie? Well, let's be quick: she is a damn great actress. Ah yes, of course she looks great. Those who know me.. well, they know I am a big fan of Mrs. Jolie. Enough said ;)

If you can (as in "yes, there is a decent cinema in my city/tow", stop reading this and go watch the movie :P

:: Movies - The Fountain ::

Man... that's a crazy movie! I watched it last night. My wife was too tired so she couldn't watch it to the end. I held on and did it. Well, I don't know but.. perhaps I would have to watch it again to measure it better. I liked the movie, since I have some level of spirituality (or so I believe). You have to watch it with an open mind and willing to try and find hidden meanings. Good job from Hugh Jackman. I like Rachel Weisz, but this role didn't ask much of her skills.

Well, since the movie ended almost at 2 in the morning... I am quite tired/sleepy now. So... here ends my report ;)

:: Movie - Jumper and Chaos ::

What's up? I am alright here. Well, this quick post is to talk about two movies I watched recently (one on last Sunday and one last night). Respectively, Jumper and Chaos.

Despite of Arthur - a friend of mine - saying the Jumper was bad, I tried it... and I really enjoyed it. Very good movie. Very good special FX and the story is good, at least for my taste. OK, it's not one of those movies which might be chosen to try an Oscar, but it is good, PERIOD.

I just think - my wife thinks the same - Hayden Christensen might have some problems with his voice, because as far as we remember it was a bit better when he played Anakin Skywalker hehehehe But it's ok, he did well on this movie too.

I don't remember Arthur saying anything about Chaos, but I bet he would say it is not that good too. I liked the action, the story and it almost surprised me, really. A good job by Ryan Phillippe and also Jason Statham. Sorry, Wesley, not that you are not a good actor, but the role didn't require much, right?

Well, I liked these movies and I recomend them to you.

As soon as I get time to watch more movies, I will comment. I am sorry if I haven't writen as much as you would like, but if anyone thinks I whould write more about the movies, just let me know ;)

:: Movies - Chun-Li movie? ::

Indeed! Just read about it. OK, as far as I know, it is not that "new news", but...

What really caught my attention is the fact that Kristin Kreuk (Lana in Smallville, for those who don't know) was chosen to play the leading role, that is... Chun-Li. For those thinking "what the hell is this Chun-Li?", she is one of the characters of the VERY FAMOUS Videogame Street Fighter 2. Another interesting thing is... Chun-Li is not one of the main characteres of that game. The main chars are Ryu and Ken... but... ok ok. After seeing that crappy movie where Guile was played by Jean Claude Van Damme.... oh my.

I do like Kristin. Thinking a bit... and taking her chinese heritage in perspective... she might do well (the looks). But then I do hope she takes LOTS AND LOTS of Kung Fu classes. It's one thing to "play some martial art moves" in Smallville. It would be ANOTHER THING doing martial arts move as a character who ROCKS in Kung Fu (or was that Wushu?), like Chun-Li.

Anyway, I think the movie can't be as bad as Van Damme's one, can it? *LOL*

:: Movies - 300 ::

Só digo uma coisa: QUE FILME FOD@!

Sério! Catei o filme anteontem.

Vale a pena MESMO.

Over and out!

:: The Last Samurai ::

:: The Last Samurai - Part 2 ::

Anyway... enough rambling.

Oyasuminasai!
